The
Scrapbook of Doomed Youth
The following photos were requisitioned from the cameras of
killed enemy soldiers by PFC Chet Nycum, a scout
with the 503rd PIR. Some of the pictures are also from trooper Mike Levak, who
in private life was a photographer. The indirect photography comes from the
film that was already in these cameras when they were taken. These pictures are published
for historical purposes and with the hope that they may help clarify, for families, the
fate of their loved ones as well as showing the very human and individual nature of war
from Japan's citizen soldiers.
